FC Halifax Town captain Sam Johnson has joined Solihull Moors on loan until 3 January. The 33-year-old goalkeeper, who has made over 400 appearances for Halifax, will link up with his former manager Chris Millington at the struggling National League side.

Johnson's departure comes as Halifax sit 10th in the National League with 20 points from 13 games, a record of six wins, two draws and five losses. The club is currently on a four-game winning run, a sequence that includes a 3-2 victory over South Shields last week. This excellent recent form, which reads four wins and a draw from the last five matches, has seen the team score 22 goals while conceding 15 this season. Their next challenge is a tough away fixture against third-placed Southend on Saturday 24 October. The team's top scorer this season is S. Johnson, who has yet to find the net in his 10 appearances.

Moors' transfer move

Solihull Moors, who are 23rd in the table, have moved to bolster their defence after a difficult start. They have won just two of their 13 league games this season and suffered a heavy 5-0 defeat at Worthing earlier this month, a match where goalkeeper Max Metcalfe was substituted at half-time due to injury. Millington, the Solihull boss who previously managed Halifax, knows Johnson well and has also brought several other former Shaymen to the club, including Scott High, Jevon Mills and Tyrell Warren.

The veteran keeper is expected to go straight into the Moors squad for their home match against Carlisle United this Saturday. Solihull's recent form shows just one win in their last five outings, conceding 13 goals in that period. Johnson has featured 10 times for Halifax this season but has not scored. His temporary move provides a fresh challenge for the club captain while Halifax continue their push up the standings, though they remain 15 points adrift of the league leaders.
