FC Halifax Town have signed former Burnley midfielder Tommy McDermott. The 21-year-old attacking midfielder has joined the Shaymen on a one-year contract with the option of a further year after being released by the Premier League club.
McDermott, who came through the academy at Oldham Athletic, began his professional career at Port Vale, making his EFL debut at 17. He was named the club's youth player of the year and signed his first professional deal there in 2022. After loan spells with Salisbury, Rochdale and Curzon Ashton, he moved to Burnley in February 2024. He spent last season on loan at Shrewsbury Town in League Two, making 41 appearances and scoring three goals.
He joins an FC Halifax Town side that currently sits 14th in the National League with 13 points from 10 games. Their most recent outing was a 2-1 defeat away to Worthing last Friday. The club's standings show they are 13 points behind leaders Boreham Wood.
The signing adds youthful attacking depth to the squad as manager Chris Millington looks to improve on a recent run of form that has seen three wins, one draw and one loss in the last five matches. McDermott will be available for selection immediately as Halifax prepare to host 18th-placed Boston United at The Shay this Tuesday.
